History: Sun Life Stadium is one of three facilities in the country to host NFL football and Major League Baseball (Florida Marlins) in the same venue. (McAfee Coliseum in Oakland and the Metrodome in Minneapolis being the others.) The facility also hosts University of Miami football, the FedEx Orange Bowl and is part of the Bowl Championship Series rotation, home to the college championship game in 2009. It was completed in 1987 and constructed at a cost of $115 million in private funds, then was renovated in 2007 at a cost of $250 million. Sun Life Stadium boasts the largest hi-definition video boards in professional sports, the world’s longest LED ribbon display and the biggest POS wireless system under one roof. The stadium hosted the Super Bowl in 1989, 1995, 1999, 2007 (the first time the championship was played in a continuous rain) – and also hosted the big game again in 2010. On the club level of the stadium is the Gallery of Legends, which includes a history of the team, classic photos and the players inducted into the Dolphins Honor Roll, among them Dan Marino, Larry Csonka and Nick Buoniconti.
