This was one that definitely got away. Of the remaining six games on the Dolphins schedule this was the closest thing to a lock; without this game there is no chance we will make the playoffs. Yes, mathematically we are still alive but this team did not show anything today that makes me believe we can pull it off.

The turning point in this game was early. We had stopped Buffalo, 3 and out and proceeded to march down the field at will to the 5 yard line. At this critical moment Dan Henning decided to get cute and called a pass play from the wildcat. We had pounded the ball down the field and now we call a pass from our running back that leads to an interception in the end zone.

As it turned out our defense managed to keep the Bills from scoring and our offense and we went down and scored a TD. This should have been our second TD of the game, demoralizing the opposition and taking the crowd out of the game. Instead, it was simply a 7 point lead which turned out to be our largest margin of the day.

On a day when we should have kept it on the ground, pounding the ball, we chose to get fancy and it bit us in the ass. Make no mistake, we have flirted with this type of disaster before but so far we had been lucky - that was not the case today.

Ronnie Brown is injured.

Again.

He's had one full year since his drafting by the Dolphins (previous) brass and he's been productive but has also struggled to stay healthy. His contract may or may not run out at the end of the season, depending on the outcome of the CBA talks. If next year is uncapped, the Dolphins have the option of placing a tender on him and teams will be open to match the tender. There are a few options of tenders I believe but the ones that stand out are the first & third tender as well as the second round tender, meaning we get those draft picks if a team is willing to take on Brown. 

Just thinking about Ronnie's foot long term, and maybe not for the reason you might think.  If it is something serious, our season could be affected greatly.  Ricky can get it done, but we are a team that has thrived mostly when carrying the ball close to 40 times.  Where we will see the dropoff is when we have to go to Ricky's backup, whoever it is.  Yes, I firmly believe it all starts up front, and the offensive line makes a running back shine.  But there is no backup in the game that is any better than Ricky Williams. 

Or does this team  seem to have constant drama this year? It started with the Matt Roth "injury", Pat White hitting a golf cart with a throw, Pennington gets injured,  then the Jets and the trash talking,  Porter got hurt, then Will Allen got hurt, more crap from the Jets(even after they got swept), Patrick Cobbs gets injured, the OL has had some injuries at the OG spots, Jason Ferguson gets hurt, Channing Crowder misses time,  Porter gets benched, and Ronnie gets injured.... With all that has gone on this team sits 2nd in the division with a chance to get back to .500 tomorrow night!

How many would see the list of injuries to key players and thought we would be close to where we are? I know I wouldnt. For most people an 8-8 record this year was a hope, even with all the injuries and drama it looks like a distinct possibility! So to those going to the game get fired up and get loud, to those watching at home try not to alert the neighbors!

This was a week of highs and lows. During most of the first half of the game against the Saints we were riding a high we haven’t seen since the WildCat was unveiled against the Patriots last year. After the game the Dolphin Nation was in a low I haven’t seen since the infamous Jet’s Monday night comeback.

Just when it seemed the tide was about to change and we could focus on the upcoming Jets game Sports Illustrated released images that confirmed what already knew – The Dolphins were shafted by the officials on a play against the Saints that proved to be a momentum changer. We were right back in our funk. On top of that Dolphins fans were ready to run Ted Ginn out of town.

Fast forward to our game in the Meadowlands and our offense was limited to just over 100 total yards and only had 6 first downs. On this day it appeared that the WildCat was tamed. Our defense gave up 378 yards and we lost the time of possession battle. We didn’t deserve to win, right?
