This was one that definitely got away. Of the remaining six games on the Dolphins schedule this was the closest thing to a lock; without this game there is no chance we will make the playoffs. Yes, mathematically we are still alive but this team did not show anything today that makes me believe we can pull it off. The turning point in this game was early. We had stopped Buffalo, 3 and out and proceeded to march down the field at will to the 5 yard line. At this critical moment Dan Henning decided to get cute and called a pass play from the wildcat. We had pounded the ball down the field and now we call a pass from our running back that leads to an interception in the end zone.
As it turned out our defense managed to keep the Bills from scoring and our offense and we went down and scored a TD. This should have been our second TD of the game, demoralizing the opposition and taking the crowd out of the game. Instead, it was simply a 7 point lead which turned out to be our largest margin of the day.
On a day when we should have kept it on the ground, pounding the ball, we chose to get fancy and it bit us in the ass. Make no mistake, we have flirted with this type of disaster before but so far we had been lucky - that was not the case today.
