Today is the debut of the Anatomy Of A Play blog feature. It features a play that will be dissected from the previous game. Today's play will be against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in which Tyler Thigpen completed a 34 yard pass to Patrick Turner. With that said, here's a diagram (forgive my poor Microsoft Word skills) followed up with a breakdown of the offense and defense as well as what takes play.

DEFENSIVE BREAKDOWN: I decided to focus on the defense first because I think its important to know what kind of coverage we are looking at prior to going onto the offensive side of the ball. Tampa Bay had a four man front, two five techniques and a one and three technique. What's important to note on the defensive line is if the team is in an Under or Over front. An Over front is when the Under Tackle (UT) is shifted over to the strong side (TE side). An Under front is when the Under Tackle (UT) is shifted over to the weak side (no TE side). In this case, because of the motion of the Y, it goes from an Over to an Under front. Behind the defensive line, there are three linebackers in coverage.

Of the 99 quarterbacks in the league:

5 of them are 6'0''
9 of them are 6'1''
21 of them are 6'2''
26 of them are 6'3''
16 of them are 6'4''
17 of them are 6'5''
5 of them are 6'6''

Our Quarterbacks are 6'3'' (Henne, Pennington), 6'1'' (Thigpen), and 6'0'' (White).  2 of our potential QBs are smaller in stature than the average QB.  The average weight of a QB is 225lbs (rounded up from 224.9).  Our QB's are 230 (Henne, Pennington) 224 (Thigpen) and 205 (White).  2 of our QBs are 5 pounds heavier than the average QB and one is 20 pounds lighter.  THe other, Thigpen, is right on average.

Miami

• Has Chad Henne Improved? - In training camp, wide receivers, such as Davone Bess, were quoted as saying that Chad Henne really took the next step in his development and was ready to be a leader. He was said to have good command of the huddle, which is very important. He was also said to have improved his touch, which I think was an issue for Henne last season. Henne's touch is something that he needed to improve because we are likely to see a lot of zone underneath and he is going to need to hit Anthony Fasano down the seam, as we're likely to see a lot of MOFO (middle of the field open). In my opinion, Henne's development will have a major say on how far the Dolphins go.

Now I don’t claim to be a professional writer or journalist but what I do claim to be is a professional Miami Dolphins fan (but without the getting paid part which professional usually means). Furthermore since it is the off sesason new Fins information is hard to come by so what do I do? Create my own. That’s what.

 With that said I want to welcome everyone to my, “Top 10 Moments that Changed Miami Dolphins History…with a few honorable mentions and in no particular order other than chronologically.” Also I want to welcome everyone to extremely long titles. :)

So let’s begin:

1960: Ralph Wilson Fails to Place A Team in Miami

Many Fin fans know that in 1960 the eventual owner of the Buffalo Bills, Ralph Wilson, requested to have his AFL franchise be placed in Miami. However in a major stroke of luck for millions of future Fins fans the city of Miami turned away his bid sending Ralph to Buffalo and leaving Miami a barren wasteland for professional football (like a 1960s Los Angeles). Apparently Miami who had a taste for professional football before with the Miami Seahawks wasn’t quite ready to give it another go after that colossal failure. It was this decision to reject Ralph Wilson that would five years later give birth to our glorious Miami Dolphins.
