Are the Miami Dolphins a playoff caliber team?

After 5 games, and before the results of the Steelers game, I would have to say "no".  I will give examples why.

1.  We lost two division games, at home, on prime time TV.  The first two parts of that are what hurt the worst.  We're now behind the Jets and Pats in terms of division wins against them, and no offense to Buffalo, but they're not going to be contending this year.  The second part to this is that the games were at home.  It's not going to be any easier to get wins going into the Meadowlands, or Gillette Stadium.  The third part, the prime time TV part, does not really matter so much except that after acquiring Karlos Dansby and Brandon Marshall the nation has seen the Jets and Patriots beat us regardless.  They have also seen us lose at home.

Ah jets week.  Always a chance for some high level stupidity and they did not disappoint in week 3.  Braylon Edwards decided to get drunk and then take a drive to unwind after a hard night of partying.  When he was pulled over by police and found to be driving under the influence, he learned that even he could not wiggle out of this juvenile decision.  He asked the officers, 

 "We were coming from a party. How about if I just leave the car and take a cab and go home?”

Here’s a better idea Braylon.  How about if you just leave the car and take a time machine back to the time when you left the party, so you can call said cab BEFORE you hit the road?  Dumb ass!  And Team-mates Ferguson and Gholston get nut punted for getting in the car and not only endangering themselves, but also allowing this goofball to put other people in harm’s way.

Why not take a look at the 1st round picks over the past two years?  A lot of variables fall into place here:

• Is this a well established team or a rebuilding team?
• What slot do they draft in?
• What positions are they deep at?
• What positions is the draft class producing?

Throwing those rhetorical questions out the window I've crunched the following; it seems that in the first round over two years teams are more apt to pick:  Wide Receivers, Offensive Tackles, Defensive Tackles, and Defensive Ends (all have 8 selections over the past two years.  8 x 4 = 32).  

The next most picked position is Cornerback at 7, then Running back at 6, then Quarterback and Linebacker are tied at 5.  Out of 64 players selected in two years 4 of them are Pro Bowlers.
