I'll admit first off that this is based off of nothing more than a bit of research I did regarding consistency along the offensive line and age of players.  I looked at the 2008-2010 Miami Dolphins opening and closing day rosters to determine the consistency of the Offensive Line. 

I looked at all our players ages to determine the age strategy.  Any player 29 was in orange and any player 30 or over was in red.  Orange is less a necessity than red in terms of FA/Draft but they will have to be thought of sooner rather than later.  Red is a youth priority.

Of all of the offensive linemen only Carey, Garner, and Long have been on the team over the past 3 years.  Every other player has been brought in or shipped out.  Vernon Carey and Garner are now on IR, so in effect right now we have just 1 offensive lineman that has been a constant on the line, LT Jake Long.

I think a lot of the Dolphins offensive troubles are due to the lack of offensive identity the team has.  Offensive players acquired in one way or another under this regime include:

Davone Bess
Dan Carpenter
Pat White
Patrick Turner
Brian Hartline
John Nalbone
Andrew Gardner

Let's see how many are really effective:  Long, Bess, Carpenter, Polite.  Those are the players off the top of my head that I can think of that make an impact on the field without making a negative one off it.  I don't have to think "Well, maybe they're on this list".  They just are.  The jury is still out for John Jerry.  Brandon Marshall is either getting tons of double teams or isn't living up to expectations I had for him, or both.  Fasano is alright.  Parmele was poached.

If the Bears game is any indication of further football play for the rest of the season we may as well start looking at them because we'll be losing a lot of games.  I'll start with some stats because they're easy and then go into why I think we're a mediocre football team with a .500 record.

Offensively

Tied for 29th in points per game at 17.2.  The other team we're tied with?  The vikings, who have an astounding 3-7 record.  We're also tied with the Vikings in total points on offense with 172, but have more plays from scrimmage than them with 629.  21st in the league in yards per game with 328.6.  21st in the league in yards per play with 5.2.

Tied for 20th (with the Vikings) in 1st/G with 18.7.

Well, I am still against the reason that I think might be behind this QB switch, along with the sudden embracing of Al Harris as a younger player is cut. Neither move is terrible in my opinion, but what happened to the youth movement? I worry that our new owner may be getting his nose in where I really don't think it should be. Unless an owner is a former football player at a high level, college, whatever, I think they should leave the decisions to those who get paid to do it based on their experience and knowledge. Too many cooks spoil the broth. I think it is fair to ask about some decisions, after all, an owner is paying the bills, but pressuring to win now is not good as it leads to short sighted decisions most of the time.  That said, nobody questions Dan Henning's knowledge more than I do right now.

I worry that Sparano and Ireland may be sacrificing the long term good of the team for short term gains, thus, hoping to save their jobs. If that is true, I think that Ross is ruining his own investment. I also worry he might just be looking for reasons to bring in his old friend Carl Peterson, another move that might be bad for his investment.

The facts:

We spend the 52nd overall pick on Henne.
We bench him in favor of Pennington for at least the Titans game, if not longer.

The speculation on my part:

I want to know who really made this decision, why it was made, when they expect results, how come Henne can't do the same thing, and what the **** they are thinking?  That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

This says to me one of several things:

1.  They are shaking up the team because of the .500 record.
2.  They do not believe in his long term ability at QB.
3.  I'm trying to think of something here, but I really can't.  So we'll call this wildcard.

And not necessarily in that order.

Not that I mind Pennington, but:

He is obviously not the long term answer, and with this he is taking away experience Henne could be getting.  I don't think Henne is doing that bad.  I have two issues with him.  1.  He seems to take a long time going through his reads.  2.  He locks onto his receivers.  Both of which I think are things that can be coached.  I don't know much about the mechanics of a QB and so I'll stop talking there so I'm not talking out of my ass.
