Don Shula

Don Shula began his coaching career at the college level, he was a defensive backs coach at both the University of Virginia and University of Kentucky. He made the jump to the NFL as the defensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions in 1960 where he remained until the Baltimore Colts offered him their head coaching job. A job many felt he was to young for at the age of 33. He was the head coach for the Colts for 7 years, leading them to a 71-23-4 record.

In 1969 the Miami Dolphins owner Joe Robbie signed Don Shula to be the second coach in the teams brief history. Shula built his Dolphins around a fantastic offensive line and a terrific running game. He backed up that with the "No Name" defense, one of the decades best. Shula led his Dolphins to back to back Super Bowl victories one of which concluded the NFL's only perfect season. In 1972 Shula led the Dolphins to a perfect 17-0 record and the NFL title, a feat still unmatched today.

Don Shula's legacy will be as one of, if not the Greatest of all Time, he left the NFL in 1995 with a career total of 347 wins which gives him the record for wins by a coach. He has coached more games 526, and consecutive seasons 33, than any other coach in NFL history. All of his hard work culminated in 1997 when he was elected into the NFL Hall of Fame.
