Default Marshall catching with the machine now

Quote:
DAVIE The footballs came spinning out of a machine in the June midday heat of a steamy South Florida afternoon.

Brandon Marshall stood 10 yards from the contraption with a large wastebasket next to him. The Dolphins' practice session in which Marshall hadn't participated due to recent hip surgery was done. He was alone in an end zone of a practice field - save for a team staffer feeding the footballs into the mechanism.

Marshall would position himself to receive the ball coming from his left side, catch it and dump it into the wastebasket. He'd repeat the process from his right side or straight on. Every once in a while, Marshall would catch a ball one-armed in the crook of his elbow. The wastebasket would fill after a couple of dozen footballs had been dropped into it.

Marshall would frequently call for the machine to be adjusted for angle of delivery. He'd catch throws low and high. But the amazing aspect of the exercise was when Marshall would reach out and make a one-handed catch. Left. Right. Didn't matter.

Pfffft!! The football would hiss through the air.

Zzzzmp!! Marshall would stab it to a halt.

He almost never missed.

OK, OK, he was in shorts and a sweatshirt. There were no defenders. He didn't have to time a cut. But it was an impressive 15 minutes of surreptitious study of the man who comes to the Dolphins as their Great Bright Hope.
He is also being spot tested on coverages, adjustments, etc. Sparano says he is doing well with that too.

I wish more coaches would use tennis ball machines to catch footballs. It's one of the best techniques/drills I've seen.

Okay, STOP this facade!!!!!
Who are you really "he who calls himself Alen".....

Just do me a favor, when you are famous (something tells me that success is much more important to you than either fame or fortune), remember those that constantly challenged you. This is where I would usually say; "If I ever have a son, I would name him Alen"...but, I will more than likely have no more children:::::: HOWEVER, you already share the name of the not only most intelligent, but also wisest (Yes, there is a HUGE difference), man I have ever encountered and that will have to do.
BTW: That man is indeed my Father, and I am fortunate to ever have known him.

My middle name is Allen and I go it from My fathers father, He was not so much book smart, but he was incredibly people and common sense smart. He taught my dad a lot of the stuff he knows.

He wants to know who you really are with all of your football knowledge. Here, I'll handle this...
Lostlobofan, he is really Bill Walsh and he faked his death. He was tired of all of the celebrity status, but still imparts his football wisdom under the guise of "Alen1" on the Internet.
There, that should clear it up.

I'm trying to find the video of the drill, I had it saved. The WR's stand fifteen yards away from the machine that is shooting tennis balls at 60 mph. There is a # on the tennis ball that the receiver is suppose to call out the number while the ball is coming at him. The key is though, he can't catch the ball with his palms.

That sounds insane, which is probably why it would work.

I think it has worked out pretty well. Watching Texas Tech over the last couple years, their receivers have really good hands. Their concentration when the ball is in the air is fantastic and they don't drop many passes despite throwing the ball roughly 60 times a game. I think where this drill really helps is on the three step drops. They do really well with that.

You should go talk to San Fransisco they may need to try this with Ginn.

Do any teams on the professional level do this, that you know of?

He would duck with the ball coming at him so fast. That calling out the number is pretty amazing!

Not that I'm aware of. I do believe that Mike Martz and his coaching staff did it in St. Louis. This is how Torry Holt got as great as he did. The only difference is that they used footballs and did not call out #'s.

Yeah, it really is. It shows how good their concentration is. Call out something small that's coming 60 mph and make sure you don't get hit by it.
