Default Smith vs. D-R Cromartie

WIth the thread title, you would think I am about to compare our CB Smith, with Philly FA, Dominique-Rogers Cromartie. Well, I can't as I have never really watched Cromartie. Is he any good? Doing a quick search, I figure he may be looking for about the same as Smith...about 7 or 8 million a year. I also read he has struggled, but does that mean he is no good, or was he hurt and played below his ability? So my question is, do you think he is an upgrade over Smith? If not, is he good enough to replace Smith so he can at least be a plan B if negotiations with Smith fall through?

But if the Patriots are so awesome they don't need to cheat, then why were they cheating in Week 1? ...nor is it what the NFL should be marketing to the young.

Have read (meaning that the reporter is guessing ??) that only Hartline and Clemons are in talks at this time. Also that we will not pay Smith's or Long's asking price. Bush won't be back and its said we are building thru the draft.

Honestly with the overabundance of quality LT in FA I can't picture any of them, Long included, getting their asking price. Add to that several quality OT's in this draft and one can see where this is headed.

As for Smith, while I'm sure there is someone out there willing, Smith is not worth 8 mil a year and Jeff won't pay that either. Thank goodness!

As for plans B, C, and D .... who knows save Jeff Ireland/Joe Philbin.

I read a report yesterday that Bush hasn't been contacted by the Dolphins at all this off season and he's a little upset by it. I don't have any problem at all letting Long, Smith, Bush, and others walk BUT we should be trading them and not letting them hit free agency. I don't care what else is going on, you don't let successful 1st round draft picks leave your camp without any compensation...that's plain stupid.

You cant trade them, they are free agents. If you tag any of them they will RUN to sign the tender. Jakes tender would be in teh $15 million dollar range, Sean Smith's would be north of $10 million and Reggie would cost more than $8 million.

Yes, like IM said, we would have had to trade them during the season really. Now even if someone traded for him they would not give much knowing they are about to hit the FA market anyway. I think we once did this with Detroit to get Joey Harrington. Ignoring how that worked out, I think we just let him hit the market as Detroit was hoping to milk a pick from us. We may have given up a very low pick just to avoid the risk of him getting nabbed by another team in FA. But most teams will take their chances and keep their pick.

Yep I just read it in regular run of the mill articles...no special sources. I was just glancing around too as I had to get to work.
BTW I read everything you said about Hartline, Clemons, Long, Smith...Bush. Also read a sniff about us pursuing Wallace. But while that's yet another reporter claiming to be an insider (aren't they all - in their own minds?), it was just that one report and I think it's a pretty obvious inference to make even for a non insider. Probably throwing poop at the wall and seeing if it sticks. He will look great if it does and it will be forgotten if he's wrong. Pretty good bet though.

That's right, I forgot about that. With a former first rounder like Jake we should get a decent compensatory for him shouldn't we? The formula includes the pick you drafted them with, doesn't it?

Yes It is relative to what they are considered worth now too in a trade. However Bush and Long are high picks as well Smith was a 2nd rd player.
