Default QB rankings....

For those anxiously awaiting my next to final QB rankings for the 2013 NFL draft..........

First I have no illusions that they will be drafted in this order....

Second, I am more often than not two things...contrarian and right....about QB's.

Third this is a crappy year for QB's and I would be hard pressed to pick ANY considering the position gets over drafted....I have only 1 with a mid-late first round grade, although there will definitely be more picked in 1-2 range.

Fourth I clearly understand no one else's list will look like this...

Fifth I rank guys first on what their ceiling is and second on the probability on meeting that ceiling...many of these guys have a low probability or reaching a ceiling that is as a career backup.

6,7, and 8...I get that many will not agree......been there and done that.....pretty used to it by now. It is just our opinions.......

9. Feel free to ask if you are interested in what I do or do not see in any of these guys....

10. I am going to assume these guys go to a system that fits them.

So without further fanfare.......

1. Matt Barkey, USC
2. EJ Manual, FSU
3. Tyler Bray, Tennessee
4. Geno Smith, WVU
5. Tyler Wilson, Arkansas
6. Matt Scott, Arizona
7. Mike Glennon, NC State
8. Ryan Nassib, Syracuse
9. Landry Jones, Oklahoma
10. Sean Renfree, Duke
11. Jordan Rodgers, Vanderbilt
12. Zach Dysert Miami (O)
13. Jeff Tuel, Washington State

Evaluating college talent is definitely not my thing but I appreciate the lists anyway since it gives insight.

Out of curiosity, you said that Barkley is the only true 1st-rounder and you've also said in the past that Tannehill probably wasn't a 1st rounder to begin with. How does Barkley compare to Tannehill and would you take him in a scenario where it could be an even swap? (in other words, we trade Tannehill even with whoever drafts Barkley in the 1st...which I know would never happen but it gives us a little perspective anyway)

Personally I think they will be similar early in their careers. Barkley will take some time adjusting...i think Barkley develops longer if not quicker. They are different players...Barkley is a Timing WC type guy that likes the shallow cross and vertical air inside...but does not drive the ball, he makes "in play" decisions........Tannehill likes vertical outside the hash and focuses on who is winning on the outside...he makes a lot of pre snap one option high low reads....and he hates the inside but he can drive the ball......Barkley is a 12 play drive type guy, and Tannehill is a chunk yardage type.

Tannehill has feet and Barkley has square tires....all in all I would have picked Barkley before Tannehill, but truth be told I am we'll on the record as saying I would pick Russell Wilson before both.

I do not see a Russell Wilson out there this year..but if anyone fits that type scenario I will go on the record as really liking Matt Scott the more I see of him.

What are your thoughts on J. Rodgers of Vandy? I've not been able to get much tape on him.

His feet are a train wreck, and he has inconsistent arm slot....but the does IMHO have some talent...he has arm talent and he is a really aware player. His issues are more mechanical than the game being too big for him or in consistently making bad decisions although he can flash some "WTF was that" moments. IMO he is a guy that I would be willing to roll the dice on. Again at the end of the day I think you get two middle of the road qb's out of this class and a bunch of "guys"....and one big disappointment....just my two cents. anyone down the line is someone you are just gambling on upside.

I went through E.J. Manuel again this morning, Ray. I see it. Made improvements as a passer that were very similar to RG3's from prior year.

Renfree should be higher, I would say.

I thought about Alen and if I had bigger coconuts I would move him up..he has all the tools and measurable a...the two things I do not like are he seems schoolyard to me...he REALLY eyeballs his route guy and he is real mechanical going thru post snap reads on those occasions he does. Also every time he matches up against quality teams he has been average at best other than his 4-0 300 yards against Miami as a senior.

But he played a ton of snaps with little talent around him, has gotten better and has the tools...so yeah maybe he should be higher...but with this class that is kinda like being the skinniest girl at a fat farm.

True on being a bit mechanical but he shows anticipation and accuracy. Good enough arm. Mobile enough. As for competition, he threw well against UNC in '11 and Stanford the last two years. Wasn't bad against Clemson either. 1:1 ratio against Virginia Tech and 60% comp. I'd move him up the rankings.

That doesn't unseat "dumb as dog shit" as #1, but it's definitely on my top 10 list of M2C isms.

But if the Patriots are so awesome they don't need to cheat, then why were they cheating in Week 1? ...nor is it what the NFL should be marketing to the young.

In a mock draft on another site I picked EJ manuel in the 3rd round for the Cards, which I thought was a decent pick given the circumstances.
