So far it appears that Thrawn was right. Manning is not getting it done.

Thanks for starting a thread about this. Save me the trouble...

It was great to see his familiar, pitiful head-shakes and his arms flopping at his sides. At least for a few months, I won't have to listen to people talk about this guy being the greatest QB of all time. Although, here in New Orleans, it's a veritable year-round ass-licking fest when it comes to Peyton.
Go Steelers.

I don't think you can blame this one on Manning. He didn't play his best but he didn't play badly either. The Colts couldn't run the ball and they have no defense. Look at the time of possession! NE completely controlled the ball and never gave the Colts offense a chance to get in sync. The announcers were talking how the WR's were not open all day which is pretty bad considering the problems NE secondary went through. This type of thing leads me to believe that NE won because Belichick and Crennel beat Dungy and Moore. That said, the better team still won.

The Colts' defense is most certainly putrid. I have to believe, though, that it would've been a different story in the confines of the Dome. The bottom line is the Colts were unable to win enough games to avoid playing in the snow for the second year in a row.

Manning has all the pretty numbers, but none of the pretty rings.
I'd still rather have the two-time Superbowl MVP as my QB than a guy with a record.
The Colts are making the exact same mistakes with Manning that Miami did with Marino. They set up the entire offense around Manning and his ability to read defenses and audible. They spend the money to get him lots of "toys" on offense. It's not that they totally neglect the defense, but at the same time it's hard to argue that they seem to believe they can outscore you if push comes to shove.
And I believe that Dungy is making the same mistake in Indy that he made in Tampa with his defense. He goes almost solely after smaller faster guys who can run around, rush the passer and make plays with speed.
The Bucs and the Colts were at their best when they have a lead (esp. more than 10 points) and force the other team to pass more often than they would like. Then, their DL can pin their ears back and chase the QB, the secondary (esp. safeties) can play 2 deep and gamble on int's. A few turnovers and they can turn a 10-point game into a 20+ point lead very quickly.
But even Tampa Bay (although to a lesser degree) had a problem stopping the run, esp. in the playoffs. They can certainly get after the QB, but when the other team lines up and runs it down their throat, they cannot make the big stops and get killed in time of possession, eventually wearing down.
Any of this sound familiar?

Well to tell you the truth the defense has not matered untill he plays the Pats. Thier defense is in his head and they just can not seem to exicute. Plus it may just be the Pats have a little better coaching. We will see next year when Weisis and Crennell are gone.

Defense ALWAYS matters - that's why the Colts had to go to NE to play that game.
I am just surprised that people (even many football analysts) still fall into the same old trap of believing that you can blow people away with offense, but it rarely happens. The teams like the Colts, Chiefs, Vikings may score a lot of points in the regular season, but don't fare so well in January. Arguably the Rams managed to win the SB heavily on offense. Other than that look at the last several SB winners - Patriots, Bucs and Ravens and tell me what they had in common. Good defense still seems to beat good offense (at least more often than not), esp. in the playoffs.

Well you misunderstood what i was saying. It seems to me that this offense works well against average defense. Just when they get to the playoffs they get whipped!

That Rams team actually had a decent defense to compliment the offense. I think if you check out the statistics, they were ranked pretty high in many categories.

I agree, statitsically the Rams were pretty decent. I just thought the Rams were probably the closest SB winner in recent years to the Colts, in that their defense can look better because their offense plays with the lead so often.

I'd still rather have the two-time Superbowl MVP as my QB than a guy with a record.
Is there any question who the best QB in the NFL is?
Tom Brady won 2 out of the last 3 SB and has a VERY good possibility to win 3 of the last 4.

He has yet to even lose a playoff game. That is staggering.

Funny, i still think his defense has allot to do with it. But that Team is very good!

I'm still not convinced that Brady is the best QB in the league just because he is on the best team. I wouldn't call anyone a fool for saying he's the best though. It's certainly a legitiment argument.
Anyone else a bit happy that Peyton pooped out in the playoffs after his record breaking season so he didn't further obscure Marino's record breaking season?
Anyone else hope that Pittsburgh's Big Ben falls flat for the same reason?

actually Manning went 1-1 and to tell you the truth. i hate the Pats enough to pull for him anyway.

I found myself in the unusual position Sunday of pulling for the patsies. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Manning's team fail. I am a little aggravated about the TD record. There were a lot of things in Mongoloid's, er, I mean Manning's favor this year. The strict enforcement of the 5 yard rule certainly helped. I'm also curious as to why Manning was in shotgun formation inside the 5 yard line on first and goal so many times this year. I mean, it's not as though he had a pro bowl running back to hand off to....wait a second, strike that...reverse it. I was really impressed with his queer 3 yard shovel pass that tied Marino's record at 48. Bravo. I'd be interested to see how many of Danny's TD passes were of the shovel variety from inside the 5 yard line in his record breaking year.
Am I bitter? Oh, a tad. While I'm shitting all over Manning, let me say that I think the bastard is awesome. If he weren't so deadly, there would be no reason for me to resent him. As for Roethlisberger, I think the kid is outstanding. He has had a few rough games, as any rookie would. I don't harbor any resentment against him, and I'm counting on him playing well enough to eliminate the very bastards that I pulled for last week. I think it would be a great story for a rookie QB to go undefeated and win the Super Bowl.....especially since it wouldn't infringe upon our Dolphins this season.

just think we ruined his day a couple weeks ago...
peyton has got to win more in big games though,
till then he has a mark on his head...
Dolphin fans should know better than anyone that there's not a direct correlation between talent as a QB and winning as a QB.
If Brady and Manning switched teams is there any doubt that Manning would be just as successful?
Is Manning be suffering from the same problem that plagued Marino: the over-reliance on his arm and underutilization of the running game?
