Saban Clause is coming to town????????
ESPN reports that Saban has called LSU's AD and told him he'd have his answer by Friday- saying he needed just a little more time.
What's interesting, it looks like some N.O. media outlets are reporting that Saban has flown to Miami this evening.
If it's true that he's in Miami, I cannot imagine him not taking this job. Some say the longer he takes to decide, the more likely it is that he ends up back at LSU. I disagree. I think he realizes that this could be his last flirtation with an NFL team if he goes this far, and then declines. I Just think that he is going over every one of his demands with a fine-toothed comb at this point, and when Wayne gives in to every single one, Saban will be the new HC of the Miami Dolphins.

Saban Claus....... very nice.
I am extremely hopeful that Saban takes the job. I think this is will be a great first step on the road back for this franchise. Very interesting tidbit that Saban may in fact be heading to Miami tonight. That can only bring good news if true.

Well LSU isn't giving up without a fight:
But the Miami Herald reported on its Web site that Saban's decision became more complicated when LSU did up the ante.
LSU is offering to raise Saban's salary to nearly $4 million a year, according to the Herald's sources. Saban's current salary pays him $2.3 million in base pay and he will reportedly get $400,000 for taking the team to a bowl game.

report that LSU upped the ante is apparently BS.

Again, the story is bullshit. LSU has no intention of renegotiating Saban's contract.
From the Palm Beach Post
Bertman denied a report that the school is willing to up Saban's contract to nearly $4 million a year.
"It's bogus," Bertman said. "Our president is upset. Our board members are upset. Nick Saban doesn't want any more money. That's not what this is about."
Nice piece of reporting on Thursday from Jason Cole.

Apparently Heizenga's personal plane landed in Baton Rouge this morning, but was still on the tarmac hours later. I hope we get a decision soon. All I want for Christmas is Saban.

It's hard to guess what is happening right now. My take is that Huizenga met with Sexton and Saban this morning to finalize the deal, and Saban doesn't want a word of it released until he has had a chance to talk with his players. The majority of the team will be taking a charter flight from New Orleans to Orlando on Christmas Day. It's my guess that he'll be able to communicate his decision to leave to his players at that time, and all that will remain is a short plane ride to Miami to make it official.
I also want to say that I've read quite a few posts on another Dolphins message board, and all I can say is.....PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!
I can understand being anxious for an answer, because it seems like this has gone on for a long time. What I can't understand is the overreaction of complete morons that somehow feel we're being hurt by Saban's time table. If anything, it's LSU fans that should be pissed that Saban's indecision is hurting their recruiting class. If this thing goes a few more days and Saban decides to stay at LSU, what have we lost? We will have lost something we never had to begin with, and we wouldn't have missed out on any other candidate that has been targeted for an interview.
So, in the spirit of the holiday season, I offer this to our ignorantly impatient fellow fans......

TK, I agree with you that he's waiting to tell his players 1st. Once Saban came out a couple of hours ago and said he would announce his decision within 24-48 hours I think it has become appearent what his decision is. Huizenga wouldn't be spending all day in Baton Rouge on Christmas Eve for a "NO".
I believe he already knows what he wants to do, I just feel that he refuses to let his players know via ESPN. Also, he would probably not wait for his players to announce that he's staying. When he turned down Chicago, he trickled word through the media. No player meetings, or official Press Conference.
Just my opinion- but I think he's let this brew a little too long to walk away now.

Great post. We are not being hurt at all by this timetable. I also did not realize the factthat Saban may want to communicate with his team first - that makes perfect sense. He owes them at least that.
